COURSE ATENDEE INFORMATION
Public course location
Our training rooms are located at 16 McBride Street, south Dunedin or the Otago University Student’s Association (OUSA). Please check your booking confirmation email to check which location you are booked for. Free parking is available behind the building or the side streets and around the University.
On the successful completion of your course, you will be issued with a Workplace First Aid Training certificate. The certificate will be posted to you after the course.
Physical contact and disabilities
Most course content is practical and involves some group participation. Practice during the class involves touching and being touched. You will be required to demonstrate to your instructor that you are physically able to perform first aid tasks. If you are unable to perform first aid and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the instructor to assess competency, then you may not meet the course requirements. If you have any disabilities or an illness that could affect your performance during the course, please contact Workplace First Aid Training’s Managing Director Phil Hudson for advice before the course commencement date.
NZQA and unit standards
If you are already hooked on to NZQA, please bring your Record of Learning (ROL) number with you. Workplace First Aid Training will register your unit standards with NZQA. If you are not already hooked on to NZQA and want to have the unit standards registered, please see your instructor.
Several forms of assessment will be used throughout your course, including self-assessments and scenario assessment conducted by the course instructor and/or your fellow students.
Sensitive course material
Some of the visual presentations used on courses may cause distress, because they depict emergency medical and accident situations. If you are upset by the images you see, please talk to your instructor. Instructors are trained to help and can recommend support agencies for further assistance.
You may appeal any assessment decision by putting the appeal in writing to the Managing Director within one week of the course. The manager will investigate the assessment procedure to ensure that it was fair, valid and consistent, and then make a decision.
Recognition of prior learning
An assessment-only process can be arranged for people whose first aid skills are currently competent. The appropriate unit standards will then be added to your record of learning if required. Call us to establish the fee for this process.
If you have a learning difficulty or some other disability that makes assessment difficult, please notify the instructor to discuss your requirements. Instructors may contact students who appear to be having difficulty with learning during the class to see how they could help.
It is important that the full course is attended for certification. Please do not schedule appointments during the class hours or you may not be able to obtain a certification. Please make sure you are on time for the course or you may be refused entry. There is a lot to cover and the Instructor will not be able to assess you as competent if you miss any of the course. If you are 20 or more minutes late to the course you will need to re-schedule.
Your feedback helps to improve our service. Every problem will be dealt with confidentially and every effort is made to find a satisfactory solution. If you have a complaint about the course, instructor, assessment or venue, please discuss it with your instructor. Specific course materials will be provided at the start of your course. Additional material may also be provided to you for use during the course. With some courses, you’ll be able to keep some of this material. Your student manual is included in the course price.
Course bookings can be made up to 12 months in advance. These can be made from our website by phoning or emailing us but we do prefer website as you will be sent all course information automatically and you will be added to our student records.
For business and corporate customers, an invoice will be sent after the course with your staff certificates. Payment is due on the 20th of the month. For individuals payment can be made via online banking or on the day. Please note at this stage no eftpos is available at our public venue.
Withdrawal and Refund policy
- A full refund of fees paid and/or credit will be given if Workplace First Aid Training cancels a course. If you re-book, fees can be carried over to another course.
- A student or business who doesn’t notify Workplace First Aid Training of their cancellation is not entitled to a refund (full fee applies). Re-booking is not allowed, however students or businesses may pay another fee and enrol on a new course.
- To request a refund or credit, please apply in writing to Workplace First Aid Training. Please state the amount sought and the reason why the refund or credit should be made. Refunds will not be made to anyone except the person/organisation who made the original payment.
- A student is entitled to a full refund (100% course fee) if he/she gives notice 10 working days before the commencement date for the course they will not be attending. Re-booking is allowed.
- A student who cancels on the day of the course is not entitled to a refund. Re-booking is allowed.
A student is entitled to one complimentary re-booking. A fee may be charged for any further re-bookings.
What to wear
We suggest you wear loose-fitting casual clothing, as the practical nature of the demonstrations and practice requires kneeling on the floor. Trousers and flat shoes are recommended. Please don’t wear sparkly lip gloss or lip stick on the day. You will be provided with manikin faces to train with and lip glass or lipstick can damage these.
Workplace First Aid Training has a smoke-free work environment and students are requested to smoke only in designated areas.
Sexual/racial discrimination or harassment
Sexual or racial harassment and/or discrimination is unlawful and will not be tolerated by Workplace First Aid Training. Students who feel they have been discriminated against or harassed by a fellow student or a Workplace First Aid staff member should contact the Managing Director.
Alcohol and drugs
We reserve the right to refuse to teach a student if we suspect they have consumed, are under the influence of, or are in possession of alcohol or drugs during course hours (other than those personally prescribed by the student’s doctor or are authorised to be in their possession).
There are no baby/child minding facilities available at Workplace First Aid Training.
Unless it’s a matter of urgency, your mobile phone should be turned off during class or set to vibrate.
A break is provided at morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. It is recommended that you bring your own lunch, as this is not supplied.
